Overnight in Belgrade

As Day 1 on the tour, we will start our sightseeing in Serbia’s capital- Belgrade.

Belgrade as one of oldest European cities and real crossroads of East and West has many tales to be shared. It’s also ideal place to start your Balkans Road Trip because once upon a time Belgrade was most important point between East and West or Istanbul and Vienna.

A city with real mix of cultures, architectures was always known as white city! Maybe because of its position on confluence of two beautiful rivers, Danube and Sava, or because of white stone that he was made of.

Belgrade Fortress stands as the biggest attraction of the city, together with St. Sava temple will be point of interests for you during city tour of Belgrade.

 

After Belgrade, we are moving to the north, city of Novi Sad, also known as ‘’Serbian Athens.’’ It is known for its vibrant culture, charming mix of old and modern and huge influence of Austrians- you can notice that everywhere around you.

We will walk along unskippable Dunavska Street, straight to Freedom Square, lively spot surrounded by historical buildings and cafes.

For end of the day, we will visit Petrovaradin Fortress, one of the most iconic landmarks in Novi Sad.

Our Day 2 starts with our 2.5h drive to Timisoara.

Timișoara is a vibrant city in western Romania, known for its rich history, diverse culture, and beautiful architecture. This city played a key role in the Romanian Revolution of 1989, being the first city to rise against the communist regime.

It’s called the “City of Flowers” because of its many parks and green spaces. It’s also famous for its mix of architectural styles – Baroque, Art Nouveau and Neo-Renaissance. Symbols of the city are at the Victory Square – impressive Romanian Opera House and National Theatre.

This city is home to a thriving cultural scene, with theaters, museums and festivals.

 

After our lunch break, we continue our journey towards Transylvania.

 

 

Overnight in Brasov.

 

 

 

 

Day 3 starts with Brașov city tour.

Brașov is a city nestled between the Carpathian Mountains. Founded in 12th century, Brașov is one of the country’s most well-preserved cities where that’s medieval charm is still visible. The city’s centerpiece is Council Square, surrounded by beautiful buildings and the famous Black Church, a Gothic masterpiece. Another iconic spot is Catherine’s Gate, a historic city gate dating back to the 16th century.

City is surrounded by breathtaking mountains and forests, so it offers opportunities for hiking, skiing, and exploring nature.

Our road leads us to Bucharest, but we have more things to see!

Just 30 minutes from Brasov, we arrive to Bran Castle, famously known as “Dracula’s Castle” due to its association with the Dracula legend. The castle has a fortress-like appearance and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Its eerie atmosphere and historical significance make it essential stop on our trip.

Next stop is Peleș Castle, striking Neo-Renaissance castle built in the late 19th century. It is built for King Carol I and served as the royal residence. The castle is famous for its beautiful architecture, intricate woodwork and elaborate rooms. Surrounded by forests, it offers breathtaking views and is a popular tourist attraction, now functioning as a museum showcasing art and royal collections.

Whole Day 4 we are spending in Bucharest.

Bucharest is a capital and the largest city in Romania. It is often called “Little Paris” due to its elegant architecture and cultural vibe, city’s wide boulevards, neo-classical buildings, and cafes that were reminiscent of Paris at the time.

We will start our city tour in charming Old Town with its cobbled streets and visiting the beautiful Romanian Athenaeum concert hall.

One of the largest administrative buildings in the world is The Palace Of The Parliament. This monumental structure was built during the rule of Nicolae Ceaușescu and it is a massive symbol of Romania’s communist past.

Despite being a bustling urban center, Bucharest has a surprising amount of green areas. Herăstrău Park (now called King Michael I Park) is the largest, featuring a lake, floral areas and walking paths.

The Bucharest’s nightlife is vibrant too, with everything from upscale bars to lively clubs. Perfect place for spend the evening!

Day 5 in the morning, we are taking our 5 hours drive to Sofia.

When we arrive to Sofia, in the afternoon we will continue our day with city sightseeing.

This city is one of the oldest cities in Europe, with a history that dates back over 2,000 years. Sofia has a fascinating mix of Roman, Ottoman, and Soviet-era influences. You can see ruins of Roman baths, Byzantine churches, and Ottoman mosques throughout the city.

Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is iconic church, one of the largest in Europe, known for its impressive architecture and golden domes. It’s a must-see when visiting Sofia.

Sofia is home to many theaters, museums, and galleries. The National Palace of Culture is a hub for events, and the city’s vibrant arts scene offers something for everyone. Enjoy it!

On Day 6 we are moving to Skopje.

We will make a stop on our way to visit Rila monastery, one of Bulgaria’s most famous landmarks. It’s a UNESCO Heritage site and center for Orthodox Christianity in Bulgaria. The monastery features stunning architecture with vibrant frescoes and intricate woodwork. It’s surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, offering a peaceful and historic retreat.

As soon as we arrive to Skopje, the city tour is waiting for us!

Skopje, city of contrasts, blending historic landmarks with modern architecture.

Known for its massive statues, the iconic Stone Bridge, and the Old Bazaar, it offers a mix of Ottoman, Byzantine, and contemporary influences. The city is also famous as the birthplace of Mother Teresa and for its vibrant cultural scene.

 

 

Overnight in Skopje

In the morning of Day 7, we are going on our day trip to Prizren, which is located in Kosovo region, south province of Serbia.

Prizren is a historic city known for its well-preserved Ottoman and Orthodox architecture, beautiful mosques, churches and the iconic Stone Bridge. Medieval fortress offers stunning views, a lively cultural scene, and a mix of Serbian, Turkish, and Albanian influences.

On our tour we will visit old town of Prizren, Sinan Pasha mosque, one more UNESCO heritage site – Our Lady of Ljevish church and Kalaja Fortress, followed with some nice lunch, it will be enjoyable.

After Prizren, we are visiting one more UNESCO heritage site – Gracanica monastery nearby Pristina, dating back to early 14th century, it is a masterpiece of medieval Serbian architecture, known for its intricate original frescoes and five-domed structure.

 

Transfer back to Skopje.

 

 

Overnight in Skopje

It’s Day 7 and we are heading to the most beautiful city in Macedonia – Ohrid.

On the way to Ohrid you will have a chance to witness views on one of wildest and tallest Balkans mountains – Shara Mountain.

UNESCO heritage site – Ohrid, picturesque old town, known for its rich history and well-preserved medieval architecture. Features ancient churches, a historic fortress, and one of Europe’s oldest lakes, making it a cultural and natural gem of the Balkans. During guided tour you will learn everything about it!

After that, we are going on the south to visit St. Naum monastery, beautiful Orthodox monastery on the shores of Lake Ohrid. Founded in the 10th century by Saint Naum, a disciple of Saints Cyril and Methodius, it is known for its stunning frescoes, breathtaking lake views, resident peacocks and the natural springs that feed into the lake.

On Day 9 we depart from Ohrid towards Tirana – capital of Albania.

Tirana city tour starts at Skenderbeg Square – The heart of the city. It’s surrounded by important landmarks and is a great starting point for exploring the city.

We will see numerous important buildings from 18th and 19th century like Et’hem Bey Mosque and Clock Tower which offers a great panoramic view of the city.

In city you can see presence of 3 religions. Beside mentioned mosque we will also see St. Paul Catholic Cathedral and Resurrection of Christ Orthodox Cathedral one of the largest Orthodox cathedrals in the Balkans.

Overnight in Tirana

As Day 10, our road leads to Montenegro.

First, we are going to visit cute town Kruje, a birth place of national hero Skenderbeg and historic town famous for its medieval castle, the Skanderbeg Museum, and its charming Ottoman-style bazaar.

It was the stronghold of Skanderbeg, who led resistance against the Ottomans. The town offers stunning mountain views.

Our next stop is Budva – most popular summer resort in Montenegro. Nice and charming Old Town will be discovered on our guided tour. Also, we can make lunch break here in some of the restaurants on the sea coast. Budva is called Montenegrin Monte-Carlo with well known nightlife.

After that, we are going to continue our drive to Kotor bay.

 

 

Overnight in Kotor

Day 11 we are starting in stunning Kotor old town, one more UNESCO heritage site on this tour, filled with medieval architecture, charming squares, and historic churches.

One of oldest cities in this part of the world is surrounded by mountains and city’s fortress, offering stunning panoramic views, reflects its rich maritime and cultural heritage. This beautiful city is nestled in the southernmost fjord in the world. Blend of history, natural beauty, and vibrant atmosphere makes Kotor a must-visit destination on the Adriatic coast.

During scenic ride through to the bay, we will make few stops and one of them will be in Perast, old town in the bay with nearby famous island and church Our Lady of the rocks.

This is the perfect place to spend relaxing day as a small break on our tour!

We are starting our Day 12 with 2 hours long drive to Dubrovnik.

This ”Pearl of Adriatic” is UNESCO heritage site and one of the most popular cities in the Balkans, known for its rich history and as a filming location for famous TV shows. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you’ll recognize some of the spots!

Walking trough Stradun, main street of city, we are going back to Venetian period. City Walls offers us panoramic view of the city and the sea and Lovrijenac Fortress provides a dramatic backdrop on this charming place! We will enjoy amazing architecture and history of Dubrovnik and try to feel that typical easy-going lifestyle that locals have here.

 

 

Overnight in Dubrovnik

 

On Day 13, we will start 2 hours long road trip to the next gem – Mostar.

Scenic drive through high mountains, canyons and valley of Neretva river will be real adventure for itself.

On the way we will visit Kravice waterfall – favourite Herzegovinian picnic area and also a swimming spot for hot summer days. This is an attractive location for both nature lovers and hedonists.

After Kravice waterfalls, we are going to Buna river spring. There is village Blagaj, which hides wonderful treasure. Medieval Tekke or Dervish monastery, founded in 16th century. Definitely place that we can’t skip.

We arrived in Mostar, one of the most charming places in Bosnia, with Ottoman architecture and Mediterranean climate, this town is a storyteller for itself.

Famous 16th century Old Bridge and Crooked Bridge, rising high above astonishing Neretva river are definitely the biggest attraction. If we are lucky, we can attend the bridge jumping competition that has been held here for years.

 

 

Overnight in Mostar

 

 

We are starting Day 14 moving to Sarajevo. Capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina has many stories to tell!

One of our first stops is Baščaršija – old town of Sarajevo and symbol of the city. This is the place you can enjoy best food and sweets, for which Sarajevo is widely known. When we step outside of Baščaršija, whole story just begins. Meeting of cultures is something that perfectly describes Sarajevo – meeting of East and West

The City Hall is a true example of how Oriental and European architectural styles blend, symbolizing both the city’s past and its present.

We will also visit some of landmarks like Eternal Flame monument, Old Orthodox Church, Yellow Fortress and of course Latin bridge, a place where Gavrilo Princip killed Austrian archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914.

Overnight in Sarajevo

 

After Sarajevo, Day 15 is reserved for Plitvice Lake.

We will take 5 hours long drive to Plitvice, with the stop in Jajce – known for its rich history and stunning natural beauty. It’s famous for the Jajce Waterfall, where the Pliva River cascades into the Vrbas River, creating a breathtaking sight right in the heart of the town.

Plitvice Lakes National Park is UNESCO heritage site can be best described as breathtaking natural wonder known for its cascading waterfalls, crystal-clear lakes, and lush greenery, all connected by scenic wooden pathways.

Here, we will enjoy for an hours and hours.

 

 

Overnight on Plitvice

Day 16 we are starting with 2 hours drive and new city – Zagreb.

Zagreb city tour you will start in Ban Jelačić Square, the heart of the city.

Then we will go up to the historic Upper Town to see St. Mark’s Church, with its iconic tiled roof, and enjoy the panoramic view from Lotrščak Tower.

Wander through the charming streets before heading down to Dolac Market, Zagreb’s lively open-air market.

We will also explore vibrant Tkalčićeva Street, lined with cozy cafés, bars, pubs and boutiques.

 

1.5 hours transfer to Ljubljana.

 

 

Overnight in Ljubljana

 

Our Day 17 starts with Ljubljana city tour.

Capital of Slovenia is well known for its famous cozy, laid-back atmosphere.

We will start guided tour in Prešeren Square, the lively heart of the city, and cross the iconic Triple Bridge into the charming Old Town.

We will stroll along the Ljubljanica River, admiring colorful Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings.

We will visit Ljubljana Castle for stunning panoramic views before heading down to explore the bustling Central Market.

Lake Bled

Just a 40 minutes drive from Ljubljana, Lake Bled is a stunning alpine getaway, known for its emerald waters, a picturesque island with a church, and medieval castle on a cliff, offering breathtaking views.

In the evening, you will have a chance to enjoy a coffee in the restaurants on Ljubljana streets or relax in Tivoli Park, the city’s green oasis.

Day 18 is reserved for Venice!

Venice is a unique city in Italy, famous for its canals, gondolas, and stunning architecture. The city is built on a group of islands in the Venetian Lagoon.

It is known for landmarks like St. Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace and the Rialto Bridge.

Venice is also famous for its vibrant arts scene, historical sites, and amazing food! It’s a place where you can wander through narrow streets, explore charming squares, and experience its rich cultural heritage.

 

 

Overnight in Lido di Jesolo

It’s Day 19 and our road leads us back to two biggest ports on Balkans – Trieste and Koper.

Trieste is a historic port city in northeastern Italy, on the Adriatic Sea near the border with Slovenia. It’s known for its unique mix of Italian, Austrian, and Slavic influences due to its past as part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Stunning Piazza Unità d’Italia, the Miramar Castle and the Trieste Cathedral are just some of the key sights in this amazing border place. The city is also famous for its coffee culture, with numerous historic cafes.

After Trieste, we are moving to Koper – a coastal town in Slovenia.

It’s known for its Venetian-style architecture and rich history as a former part of the Venetian Republic. We will visit the Old Town – charming medieval center full of narrow streets, picturesque squares, and beautiful buildings like the Praetorian Palace and Koper Cathedral.

Koper has a relaxed, cosmopolitan vibe, culture and seaside charm that you can’t miss.

Day 20, and our last full day we will spend in astonishing coastal town Rovinj.

It is located on the Istrian Peninsula, the north part of the Croatian coast. City is known for its charming old town, colorful buildings, thriving arts scene with galleries, museums, and cultural festivals.

We will visit historic center, full of narrow, winding streets, vibrant buildings, and quaint shops who leads up to the Church of St. Euphemia, which offers incredible views from its bell tower.

 Rovinj is surrounded by beautiful small islands, like St. Catherine’s Island, perfect for day trips or peaceful escapes.

One of the most picturesque and beloved destinations on the Croatian coast.

Transfer to Pula.

Overnight in Pula

On the last Day 21 of your trip, depending on flight schedule we can organize more sightseeing on way to the airport or simply you can have a free time before your flight.

If you choose more sightseeing option, we will spend last day in Pula.

This beautiful town is known for its Roman ruins. One of the best-preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world, Pula’s Arena could once hold up to 20,000 spectators and is still used for events and concerts today.

There is also Temple of Augustus and Triumphal arch from the same period, marking the entrance to the city’s old town.

This wonderful place is maybe the last one on our trip, but it is certainly an invitation to come
